Álvaro Zambrano started singing at the Pontifica Universidad Católica de Chile with Ahlke Scheffelt and then continued his studies at the State University of Music in Freiburg with Prof. Reginaldo Pinheiro. He was the member of Deutsche Oper Berlin between 2012 and 2016 where he debuted in several roles such as Tamino (The Magic Flute), Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore), Fenton (Falstaff). He sang the role of Prunier in Puccini’s La Rondine at Deutsche Oper (directed by Rolando Villazón) and on a recording at Prinzregentheater in Munich with the Munich Radio Orchestra. He appeared as Albazar (Il turco in Italia by Rossini) at Bergen National Opera, as Mengone (Lo Speziale by Joseph Haydn) in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Barcelona, Cologne and Zurich with the Cologne Chamber Orchestra conducted by Jan Willem de Vriend, as Alexis in concert performance of Giordano’s Siberia alongside Sonya Yoncheva with the National Orchestra of Montpellier under Domingo Hindoyan.
He was the member of the Opera of Leipzig between 2019 and 2024 where he sang the roles of Tamino, Nemorino, the Prince in Alban Berg’s Lulu, Helmsman in Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman, Lord Arturo Bucklaw in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor. Season 2023/24 engagements include the role of Eurimaco in Monteverdi’s “Il ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria with Ensemble I Gemelli in a concert tour (Teatro Real Madrid, Opera of Toulouse, Opera of Bordeaux, Bozar Brussels), and a tour of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra (Tokyo Metropolitan Theater, Suntory Hall,Yokohama, Osaka).
In 2015 Álvaro Zambrano founded his latin band “Los Pitutos”. In this group these multi-instrumentalist musicians perform their own songs and arrangements as well showing their unique sound and versatility, bringing pure Latin American vibes to the audience.
